UAE Explores Investing in Nuclear Power in Europe

  The United Arab Emirates is looking into investing in nuclear power projects across Europe. The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC), which is owned by Abu Dhabi's ADQ holding company, has expressed interest in taking minority stakes in upcoming nuclear plants. ENEC officials have discussed potential opportunities with leaders in Britain specifically.  This news comes shortly after the fourth reactor at ENEC's Barakah nuclear power plant in the UAE came online. Once fully operational, Barakah will be one of the largest nuclear sites in the world, producing 5,600 MW of carbon-free electricity. As the primary owners and operators of Barakah, ENEC has gained significant experience in developing and operating nuclear facilities.   The United Arab Emirates has continued providing humanitarian relief support to Ukraine amidst the ongoing conflict. Recently, the UAE dispatched a plane carrying 50 tons of food supplies to Ukraine. The aid was sent to Poland first for transfer to Ukraine under the supervision of the UAE's mission in Poland.  The latest relief initiative took place during the holy month of Ramadan, demonstrating the UAE's commitment to ongoing humanitarian assistance and helping meet the basic needs of people in Ukraine. As part of its Ramadan 2024 campaign, the Emirates Red Crescent distributed 4,500 iftar meals in Pakistan’s Sindh province. The meals were provided through the ERC’s office in Pakistan as a way to break the daily fast for those in need.  This is an ongoing initiative organized by the ERC to lend relief during Ramadan. In addition to helping fulfill an important religious obligation, distributing iftar meals also aims to foster social bonds and a spirit of community. It allows people to share in breaking their fast together before Maghrib prayers each evening. Korea-UAE Nuclear Power Plant Successfully Starts Operation of Fourth Reactor

The United Arab Emirates' fourth reactor at the Barakah nuclear power plant has now connected to the country's power grid. The Barakah plant is a key symbol of economic and energy cooperation between UAE and South Korea. KEPCO, the South Korean state-owned electric utility, announced that UAE's Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) had finished grid connection work for the fourth reactor on March 25, 2024. This means the fourth reactor can now supply electricity generated to households and industries in UAE. Al Jalila Foundation runs the Basma Ramadan campaign where purchases of Costa Coffee gift cards donate money towards providing medical aid. Dubai Cares supports people in Gaza through donations for food baskets, shelter and school meals. Dubai Culture partners with Talabat and the Emirates Red Crescent to provide iftar and suhoor meals to underprivileged individuals through food deliveries.  In addition, international organizations also run campaigns during Ramadan.    The UAE Ministry of Defence announced the completion of the second humanitarian aid drop over northern Gaza on Tuesday as part of Operation Gallant Knight 3. This operation was launched in November 2023 to support Palestinian civilians.  Joint teams from the UAE and Egyptian air forces carried out the operation, using three aircraft to drop approximately 42 tonnes of food and medical supplies. UAE Opens 300 Housing Units in Syria to Provide Earthquake Relief and Shelter to 1,500 Displaced People

  The UAE has opened 300 housing units in Latakia, western Syria to provide shelter for earthquake survivors. This is part of a larger project to build 1,000 homes commissioned by the Emirates Red Crescent.  The units are intended to house around 1,500 people displaced by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck near the Turkey-Syria border in February 2023. This quake and subsequent aftershocks killed over 50,000 people in Turkey and 7,000 in Syria, destroying thousands of homes and leaving many without shelter during winter. As part of its Operation Gallant Knight 2 relief efforts, the Emirates Red Crescent aims to support those affected by the earthquakes.
