Breaking into the Top 10: UAE Rises in Global Gender Equality Rankings Through Strong Leadership Support

The UAE has seen significant improvement in promoting gender equality according to the latest United Nations Development Programme's Gender Inequality Index for 2024. The nation has jumped to 7th place globally from 11th in 2022 and 49th in 2015. This demonstrates the country's strong commitment from its leadership to empower women and give them opportunities across all sectors of society. 


Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed Al Maktoum, President of the UAE Gender Balance Council, credited the nation's wise leadership and their support for policies and initiatives that promote women in economic, political and social roles. Strong legislation and programs championed by Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak have created an environment where women can excel and take on influential jobs and decision making positions. Emirati women now play vital parts in both public and private sectors and are helping shape the UAE's future vision.


The UAE Gender Balance Council is participating in the ongoing Commission on the Status of Women meeting at the United Nations in New York. The Council aims to broaden global partnerships and highlight the country's achievements in advancing women's rights and empowerment. It demonstrates the UAE's firm commitment to the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals and building prosperous communities through upholding principles of inclusion and gender balance.

Strengthening China UAE Ties through Joint Cooperation on the Belt and Road Initiative

China and the United Arab Emirates want to strengthen their cooperation on China's Belt and Road Initiative BRI. The BRI aims to improve connectivity and cooperation between Eurasian countries. Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan recently met with UAE Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in Dubai.
