World Water Day 2024 Commitment

On March 22nd, 2024 - World Water Day, the UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan reaffirmed the country's commitment to overcoming water scarcity issues. In a statement on X platform, the President said that the UAE will continue working with international partners to find sustainable solutions to provide fresh water to communities around the world that need it most. This aligns with the UN's theme for World Water Day 2024 which is "Water For Peace".

The UAE recognizes that water scarcity is a growing global challenge exacerbated by factors like population growth, urbanization, and climate change. As one of the most water-scarce countries in the world, the UAE has built up capabilities in seawater desalination, wastewater treatment, and irrigation efficiency over the decades. Through initiatives like the UAE Water Aid programme launched in 2015, the country assists other nations in developing sustainable water supply and management systems. Partnerships with organizations like the World Wildlife Fund are helping promote water conservation and develop nature-based solutions.

Going forward, the UAE will continue strengthening international cooperation on integrated water resource management and water security issues. More research and development is also needed in areas like renewable energy-powered desalination, water recycling, and cloud-seeding technology. Providing reliable access to water for all will be crucial for building a more equitable and peaceful world.
