Sharjah Opens New Mosques for Ramadan
The Sharjah Authority in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has opened several new mosques to welcome the Holy Month of Ramadan. These mosques are spread across different areas of the emirate, providing more worship spaces for residents and visitors. The initiative aims to create a peaceful and spiritual environment for those observing Ramadan.
According to the Sharjah Islamic Affairs Department, the newly opened mosques can collectively accommodate over 2,000 worshipers. This is part of a broader plan to open 20 new mosques during Ramadan, ensuring that all districts in Sharjah have accessible places of worship. The department’s long-term goal is to expand the mosque network across the emirate.
One of the newly opened mosques is the Hosn Al Khatimah Mosque in Al Barashi. Built in a modern Islamic architectural style, the mosque was funded by a philanthropist and covers an area of 4,072 square meters. It features a spacious prayer hall and additional facilities, with a capacity for 400 worshipers, including 80 places for women.
In Kalba, two new mosques have been built to serve the increasing number of worshipers. The Al Baraa Bin Aws Mosque in Al Saf follows a traditional Islamic architectural style and can accommodate 850 worshipers, including 100 places for women. Nearby, the Al Nitaqain’s Dhat Al Mosque in Al Ghail incorporates both Islamic and Fatimiyah architectural influences, providing space for 350 worshipers, including 50 places for women.
Other new mosques include the Al Sahabi Mosque Al Tufail bin Malik in Al Dhaid and the Umm Habib Mosque bint Al Wayam in Khor Fakkan. The first mosque, located in Suhaila Tiga, has a capacity of 600 worshipers, while the second, in Al Haray, can accommodate 400 worshipers. Both mosques include designated spaces for women. Additionally, in Al Hamriyah, the Al Sahabi Mosque Salim bin Amr was built in the Ajmal Makan housing complex, offering prayer space for 250 worshipers.
This initiative continues Sharjah’s efforts to improve worship facilities for its growing population. Last year, the Islamic Affairs Department opened 40 mosques, with 30 completed before the end of Ramadan and 10 more by the end of the year. With this year’s expansion, Sharjah remains committed to ensuring that every community has access to well-equipped and comfortable places of worship.
