Dubai Pioneers Middle East's First Drone Delivery System
Dubai has taken the future of logistics a leap forward by launching the Middle East's first-of-its kind drone delivery system at Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO). This initiative was inaugurated by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, and senior officials.
The first delivery was conducted from the Rochester Institute of Technology-Dubai (RIT-Dubai), which is a significant step in Dubai's pursuit to revolutionize logistics and air transport solutions. Sheikh Hamdan stated that this is an innovative step in line with Dubai's vision to be one of the future-ready cities.
The drone system is a product of the Dubai Programme to Enable Drone Transportation, which was initiated in 2021. It has ensured collaboration between various entities, such as Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority (DIEZ), and Dubai Future Foundation, that created dedicated air routes, all in compliance with the regulations of existing airspace.
Key partners in the initiative include Fakeeh University Hospital, Majid Al Futtaim, and Emirates SkyCargo, alongside Keeta Drone, a pioneer in the field. Pilot operations at DSO over recent months have ensured the highest safety and operational standards for the project.
H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum said Dubai is a leader in aviation and logistics, while Dr. Mohammed Al Zarooni, Executive Chairman of DIEZ, said DSO is the hub for technological innovation. The drone system, fitted with advanced flight control and low-noise propellers, will cover 33% of Dubai by 2030, revolutionizing logistics and enhancing the emirate's status as a global hub for innovation.
This initiative falls in line with Dubai's strategy to focus on public-private partnerships to drive research, innovation, and economic growth in smart mobility, as aligned with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33. The successful launch of the Middle East's first drone delivery system marks a significant step forward in Dubai's vision to be a leader in future-ready cities.
