The Change of Seasons
The days are getting shorter in the UAE as autumn arrives An astronomical event called the autumnal equinox will happen next week officially marking the start of the cooler months.
The equinox occurs twice a year In September fall it signals the beginning of autumn In March it marks the start of spring On the equinox day and night are almost exactly the same length all around the world This is because the sun rays shine directly over the equator during these times.
Some key things happen during the equinox The sun rays hit the northern and southern hemispheres equally Meanwhile the northern half of the planet starts experiencing autumn and the southern half begins spring.
In the UAE we can expect warmer temperatures to slowly decrease as autumn progresses Rainfall is also more likely during this season Locally grown fruits and vegetables will start to change too.
The equinox does not fall on the exact same calendar date each year But it usually takes place between September 22nd and 24th This is because our calendar does not perfectly match the time it takes Earth to orbit the sun.
All of these astronomical and seasonal changes are caused by the tilt of Earth axis in relation to its movement around the sun As autumn arrives in the country residents can enjoy cooler weather along with the cultural activities of the season.
The equinox marks nature transition between summer and fall Here in the UAE we ll see daylight hours reducing while temperatures gradually cool down Local agriculture and activities also shift as autumn gets underway It is a beautiful time for appreciating the rhythm of the seasons.
