Sixth EU-UAE Structural Dialogue on Anti Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism Concludes in Brussels




The European Union and the United Arab Emirates recently concluded their sixth structural dialogue on anti money laundering and countering the financing of terrorism AML/CFT in Brussels. The dialogue aims to strengthen cooperation between the two sides on issues related to preventing and fighting financial crimes. 


During the dialogue both sides discussed ways to enhance joint efforts to protect the integrity of their financial systems They also reviewed the latest threats and trends concerning money laundering and terrorist financing. The EU and UAE agreed on the importance of promoting transparency and effectively implementing international standards set by the Financial Action Task Force.


The delegations exchanged views on strengthening domestic AML/CFT frameworks This includes customer due diligence measures and setting up beneficial ownership registers. They acknowledged the need for public private partnerships and cooperation between financial regulators and relevant private sectors. The talks also focused on emerging risks such as virtual assets and new payment methods.


Cooperation on asset recovery and denial of entry of criminals was another topic discussed Both sides underlined their commitment to detect and freeze terrorist assets wherever they may be found. They also highlighted the significance of information sharing and providing mutual legal assistance in investigations and prosecutions.  


Going forward the EU and UAE will continue their joint efforts to fight financial crimes across borders This includes organizing more training programs and awareness campaigns. The structural dialogue plays an important role in promoting a coordinated response and upholding the highest anti money laundering standards globally.


By enhancing collaboration between Brusselss and Abu Dhabi the conclusion of this round of dialogue marks ongoing progress in protecting the international financial system from illicit financing.
