In world first, UAE’s XCath to perform live telerobotic surgery model trial

In a major breakthrough, a company based in the UAE is gearing up to perform a live robotic surgery in Abu Dhabi, but here's the catch – the patient model will be all the way in South Korea! This incredible feat showcases the potential of remote telerobotic surgery, especially for critical emergencies like strokes and heart issues. The company behind this milestone, XCath, specializes in expanding robotic systems for treating vascular problems. They'll be showcasing this cutting-edge technology during Abu Dhabi Global Healthcare Week.

Picture this: on May 15th, at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center, a live procedure will unfold where a surgeon in Abu Dhabi will remotely operate on a model in South Korea. Dr. Vitor Mendes Pereira, a top expert from St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, Canada, will be leading the surgery live on stage. It's an exciting display of how robotics can revolutionize how we tackle urgent medical conditions.

Eduardo Fonseca, the CEO of XCath, stresses how enabling these remote surgeries can completely change the game in healthcare. Dr. Pereira, who's known for his pioneering work in neurosurgery, shares this enthusiasm for pushing the boundaries of medical technology, especially in critical situations like stroke treatment. This live demonstration is a big step forward in making advanced treatments more accessible globally.

Neeraj Agrawal, from Crescent Enterprises, one of the backers of XCath, is thrilled about this achievement. He sees it as a testament to the region's commitment to innovation and growth. For him, this success is a sign of the Middle East's potential to drive significant advancements in healthcare.

Dr. Pereira's work doesn't stop here; he's already made history with the world's first robotic-assisted neurointerventional procedure in 2019. His dedication to pushing the boundaries of medical science is truly inspiring. And it's not just XCath – another company backed by Crescent Enterprises, EndoQuest Robotics, will be showcasing their Scar-Free Surgical Robot, showing how the region is at the forefront of shaping the future of healthcare.
