UAE president’s visit to Islamabad postponed due to ‘weather conditions’

The visit of United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to Islamabad that was scheduled for January 30th, 2023 has been postponed due to weather conditions, according to an announcement from the Prime Minister's Office of Pakistan. The new dates for the visit have not been announced yet.

The PMO stated that the visit had to be postponed because of unfavorable weather conditions in the area. The UAE president had contacted Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to express his regret about postponing the visit. However, he also assured PM Shehbaz that he would visit Islamabad soon on a two-day visit once the weather improved.

It's noteworthy that Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan had earlier undertaken an official visit to Pakistan from January 25-26th, 2023 where he was warmly received by PM Shehbaz Sharif at Rahim Yar Khan airport. During that visit, important discussions were held between the two leaders and the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development also rolled over a $2 billion deposit with the State Bank of Pakistan that was payable over the next two months.

So in summary, the scheduled visit of the UAE president to Islamabad this week had to be postponed at the last minute due to unfavorable weather conditions. However, he assured the Pakistani PM that the visit will be rescheduled once the weather improves. The close relations between the two countries were evident from his earlier successful visit to Pakistan last week.
