UAE and Hong Kong Stengthen Bonds Through HKUST Higher Delegation

UAE and Hong Kong are working to strengthen their bonds through cooperation between educational and research institutions. A high-level delegation from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), led by University President Nancy Ip, will be visiting the UAE to explore opportunities for collaboration in key areas like robotics, artificial intelligence, and clean energy.

HKUST is a top research university focused on science, engineering, business and more. The delegation will meet with representatives from government institutions and companies in the UAE that are involved in innovation, research, and technology transfer. Some of the institutions they plan to visit include the Dubai Future Foundation, University of Sharjah, Khalifa University and Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence. They aim to identify potential synergies between HKUST's expertise and the UAE's investments in fields like engineering and technology.

Given HKUST's plans to establish a third medical school, the delegation will also gain insights by visiting state-of-the-art medical research facilities at UAE institutions. Additionally, they will host an alumni reception to strengthen ties between HKUST and alumni groups in the region. This will provide opportunities for alumni to connect with their alma mater and learn about its latest initiatives.

President Ip commented that HKUST and the UAE have tremendous potential for collaborative ventures spanning education, research, and knowledge transfer, given the UAE's substantial investments in artificial intelligence. She hopes these collaborations can meaningfully advance and benefit humanity. The visit aims to further recruitment of UAE students to HKUST programs and align with the UAE's technological progress and talent cultivation goals. It is hoped these efforts will enhance existing success in nurturing innovation partnerships between Hong Kong and the UAE.
