PM Shehbaz Sharif seeks collaboration with UAE President Sheikh Zayed on Climate change after Rain
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the leadership of the United Arab Emirates for swiftly responding to one of the worst rains and floods to hit the country. Over 254 millimeters of rain fell on the Emirates in recent days, which is around two years' worth of rainfall and the highest recorded since 1949.
In a phone call with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, PM Shehbaz congratulated him for the government's timely efforts that helped control flood damages and saved lives. The Prime Minister admired the strong resolve and efficient handling shown by the UAE leadership in dealing with the challenges posed by the heavy rains.
Shehbaz commended the UAE President for displaying outstanding leadership qualities and strong commitment to public welfare. He noted that Pakistan has also witnessed heavy rains recently causing loss of lives. Both leaders called for collective global action to tackle the climate change challenge.
The Prime Minister suggested strengthening bilateral collaboration between Pakistan and UAE in this area. The UAE President appreciated PM Shehbaz's good wishes and reciprocated warm sentiments for those affected by rains and floods in Pakistan. The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to enhance cooperation across various sectors.
At least one more death was reported in the UAE floods, bringing the toll to four. Heavy rains caused flight delays and cancellations at Dubai airport, with passengers urged to only travel if necessary. Both countries are experiencing the impacts of climate change and agreed on the need for coordinated efforts to build resilience.
