UAE ramps up humanitarian Aid efforts in Gaza
The second convoy of humanitarian aid from the UAE entered Gaza this week, passing through the Rafah border crossing from Egypt. It consisted of 11 trucks carrying over 240 tons of urgent relief supplies, including tents, medical kits and provisions for the field hospital in Rafah. As conditions have raised serious concerns, aid efforts have been strengthened in recent days to address needs on the ground.
Over one million Palestinians have fled to the crowded city of Rafah to escape intensive bombardment further north in Gaza. If an anticipated Israeli ground offensive were launched in Rafah, humanitarian groups warn of unimaginable consequences, saying it could turn the city into a graveyard. Challenges with Israeli inspections have also slowed the timely delivery of aid trucks to the border.
As part of operation Gallant Knight 3, the UAE has so far sent over 400 trucks of assistance to Gaza as well as supplies via plane and ship. Over 5,400 medical cases have been treated at the Emirati field hospital since it opened in November. Donated bakeries awaiting delivery will provide food for more than 420,000 people once operational, funded to run continuously by the UAE. Increased aid efforts are urgently needed to support Palestinians facing crisis conditions.
